Condolences to the Jawahir family

The Masjid Bilal community offers condolences to Dr. Jawahir and his family on the sudden passing of his nephew at the age of 24. May Allah be pleased with him and grant him the highest level in Jannah. Please make dua for the family.


Welcome Students to Jumah Prayer on Friday, 4/21

Insha’Allah, we will have students from Centre College, accompanied by Professor Lee Jefferson, visiting us for Jumah prayer this Friday. As always, please make an effort to warmly welcome our visitors.


News from the Cemetery Project Committee

Masjid Bilal is seeking to purchase a 10-acre property for a Muslim cemetery. The property is located at 3427 Georgetown Street. Already 231 grave plots have been reserved.

The Cemetery Committee is asking those who have reserved plots to please start making their payments. The cost is $900 per grave. Donations are also being accepted to help toward the purchase.

     You can still purchase plots. These are the two options for purchasing them:

  • You may download the cemetery plot purchase form from masjidbilalky.org/projects. Complete and email the form to the Cemetery Committee. Then pay online.
  • You may pick up a cemetery plot purchase form at Masjid Bilal and mail the completed application and a check to: Cemetery Project Committee, Masjid Bilal, 1545 Russell Cave Road, Lexington, KY 40515.

Contribute to Masjid Bilal’s Monthly Obligations

A convenient way to help the Masjid meet its monthly obligations is to donate through automatic withdrawal. You can set up monthly donations online at www.masjidbilalky.org  OR you can pick up a form in the Masjid lobby, complete it, attach a voided check and put them both in the donation box.  The Treasurer will take care of the rest.

Christian-Muslim Dialogue

Bishop John Stowe will speak on “Welcoming the Stranger: Catholic Teaching on Immigrants and Refugees”. He will provide the Jewish-Catholic scriptural basis and tradition for teaching on the subject of immigration. A facilitated discussion will follow the presentation.

A potluck lunch will begin at noon. Please bring a dish, dessert or drink to share.

Sister to Sister Youth Group Event
Paint-A-Pot Plant-A Flower

Sister to Sister is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to bring to you this event where they will be painting terracotta pots and planting flowers and herbs as house warming gifts for the Habitat for Humanity families.  All girls 10+ are invited to join.

Program: The Executive Committee will present their annual report and Dr. Ihsan Bagby will present information regarding the

Volunteers Needed for Habitat for Humanity Project
Site Location: 647 Ohio Street, Lexington

Masjid Bilal is working with a group of religious organizations in Lexington to build a house for Ms. Cynthia Jackson and her family. We need volunteers to help with this build. If you can volunteer, please pick a date from the list below and put your name on the signup sheets in the Masjid’s lobby or kitchen. You may contact Br. SHARE Center News

Free Medical Clinic
Salaam Community! The SHARE Center Free Clinic is dedicated to serving the needs of both Muslims and non-Muslims in our community! If you or someone you know could benefit from our services, please come to our clinic on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month from 11am to 3pm.

       Yoga Classes (for Sisters only)
The SHARE Center has partnered with the Kentucky Yoga Initiative to host free yoga sessions. Mats will be provided. The hour-long sessions start at 6:00 p.m. on Fridays. The next one is on Friday, April 21st and the last one is Friday, May 5th.

Hope Center Dinners

Every month the SHARE Center provides dinner services at the HOPE Homeless Shelter kitchen. This service feeds over 200 men and is a great opportunity for our community to donate their money and time to serve. Food supplies for each dinner costs $500. We are in great need of sponsors to keep this beneficial service going. To support, please make checks out to SHARE Center Lexington and mail them to SHARE Center, 572 Georgetown Street, Lexington, KY 40508, or give them to a member of the SHARE Center Executive Committee – Dr. Ihsan Bagby, Sr. Sabura El-Amin, Sr. Waheedah Bagby, Br. Humza Qureshi or Br. Taha Abdallah.

 

Join Congregational Fajr Prayer on Weekends @ Masjid Bilal

All community members – men, women and children – are invited to join in congregational Fajr prayers on Saturdays and Sundays. After Fajr, words of remembrance are recited until sunrise, followed by Dhuha. The program concludes with a light breakfast. This is an effort to build a stronger community.
